@bob Eventually the "big" social networks will drown out the people (it's already starting), and the people will get fed up and leave the "big socials" (Facebook, Twitter, etc.). They'll keep moving around until they accidentally settle on a user-respecting system (like GNU Social or diaspora*). The big corporations will try to sway the opinion back around to something stupid, but no-one will be listening. Look how "cool" it already is to not have your opinion swayed by TV. It'll happen to all the media eventually... in a few generations... once we're all dead and it's new people roaming around the earth.
