@fu #GS3 is 3.5 years old and excited by "wurricanes". He asks me to show him the national hurricane center site 2-3 times per day.

The stars are from a green laser, so it needs to be up above eye level. This is especially true if there are little ones around, because they are fascinated by the lights and will place their faces right up in front of it.
In our case, the device has a button to turn off the "stars", so I did that. But then someone had to watch, because 3.5 year old #GS3 knows how to turn them back on and 1.5 year old #GS4 quickly heads for the device.
the device got moved to a high shelf, so they can no longer place their vision in danger.

My daughter-in-law has a little device that projects a moon image, auroras, and green light points (meant to be stars) on the ceiling.
#GS3 has been joyfully watching it for hours.
Grandpa was space-amazed at an older age, as he became aware of the space program. But grandpa never exclaimed "Look at the moon! Let me show you!" repeatedly.

When I visited a couple of years ago, I had a $70 Walmart 10 inches diagonal tablet computer that #GS3 was always trying to grab and play with. About a year later, I decided that since it was never going to meet my needs and he really liked it, I would send it here.
During the month-plus that I’ve been here, I have seen no sign of it. I suppose he may have destroyed it … or it may be packed away for a later time.

#GS3, #GS4, and #GS5 are asleep, but Hamilton continues. I seem to recall buying some historian’s book about Alexander Hamilton, along with both the Federalist Papers and the Anti-Federalist Papers. I think I bought two copies each (one sent home and one sent to #sonTwo, so should be here somewhere).
If I can find them, I think I’ll try to read some portion of those books.

The boys ( #GS3 and #GS4 ) have met their new baby brother, #GS5, and are swarming him. The 3.5 year old asked what to feed him, cheeseburgers or macaroni and cheese.
Mother and baby tested free of COVID-19 and baby has a few days of antibiotics because of his brothers' recent illness.

I have taught #GS3 that the best #coffee is the arabica variety, which grows at higher altitudes. So now when I walk into the kitchen and say "Coffee!", he responds "Cahrahbica!".

I remember when Tonka trucks were all metal. As I recall, they had some sharp edges. They probably would not pass today’s safety rules, but at the time, they were the choice of most of the parents and most of the children that I knew.
#GS3 has a Tonka dump truck that is smaller and plastic, with electronics to produce engine sounds. I call it “Dumpling T Ruck”.

I watched the end of #NASA's recent DART mission on live stream. #GS3 watched also. He had plenty of "What's that?" questions about various objects in the camera view, including the boulders in the last few seconds' view.
I hope things like this feed his curiosity.

Today, we also watched President Biden’s statement from FEMA headquarters, with some remarks by the Secretary of Homeland Security and the FEMA Administrator. #GS3 found the blah blah uninteresting. Then we tried to watch the Florida Governor’s speech, but within two minutes, the child was ready to wander away.
We also looked at more flooding videos and talked about the effects that people have to deal with when a hurricane 🌀 comes their way. I want to make sure he knows that it is not just a cool looking storm; that real people get harmed by such storms.

#GS3 noticed acne scars on my chest and shoulder. Now he touches the scars on my upper arms if my sleeves are too short to cover them.
He’s feeling a lot better, and is on a ten day course of antibiotics.
#GS4 is better, but still not feeling well. As a result, he is much more clingy than usual. No “let me go get into things” right now. He is also on antibiotics, as well as ibuprofen.
Still no idea where they got exposed to Streptococcus group A. None of the adults have symptoms congruent with the disease 🦠.
Everyone is sleep deprived right now.
-
#GS4 is having a rough time. Lacking sleep, wanting to be held, unable to verbalize what he feels.
He's on ibuprofen, plus an antibiotic.
#GS3 feels much better, and his appetite shows it. We're probably going out to the backyard for a while.

Update 2: the doctor said to take #GS3 to their regular doctor to get his own antibiotics.
Still no idea where either child would be exposed to streptococcus A

#GS3’s fever has ended, so he thinks he is well again. But he is still very whiny 😫, despite him thinking that he’s already well.

I made sure not to watch the Weather Channel / weather\.com site, because am not thrilled by watching someone standing in the wind and rain, telling us how bad it is.
#GS3 did want to check on the wurricanes at mid-day today, so we looked a bit at #Hurricane #Ian as it slid into the #FL coast. He asked about storm surge (which is a term I only heard in the past 3-5 years; I have been watching weather and visiting weather sites for much longer) so we talked about the ocean water covering people's houses.

#sonTwo and his wife have decided to use #GS3’s interest in “wurricanes” as a lead-in for learning about weather and storms in general.

Watching Blue’s Clues with #GS3 and #GS4. They don’t realize that I watched this with their dad and his cousins and friends. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pfw1U2DgMyw

We took a quick look at wurricanes this evening before #GS3 went to bed. The strengthening of #Hurricane #Fiona was somewhat unexpected, given that previous guidance held it to a tropical storm as far as #Bermuda. But we've been on top of #Typhoon #Nanmadol, which by now has slammed into #Japan. https://www.cnn.com/2022/09/17/asia/japan-typhoon-nanmadol-intl-hnk/index.html [www cnn com] (yesterday's pre-landfall story) https://nu.federati.net/url/287858 [www theguardian com] (current video)

Ah, #naptime. Today, the boys were both still tired from yesterday. #GS3 still tried to evade naptime, #GS4 was struggling to keep his eyes open.

#GS3 seems to be sneakier than his dad was. He likes to play with water, so he will fill a cup, carry it hidden, and dump it on furniture (beds, chairs, couches, tables) then repeat the process. #sonTwo was much more straight-forward about such things.
