There's an AMBER alert from #Los_Angeles County for a 2013 white BMW sedan, #NV license MARIMAR. !SoCal
No further details in the phone alert.
-
There may or may not be as many employees there now, but $EMPLOYER borrowed (according to my admittedly hazy memory) 600 employees from that facility in #Fresno about fifteen years ago, bussing them down to the #Los_Angeles area to assist on the phones.
From what I remember, those people were always very nice, quite unlike my agency’s own staff and the employees of the other two companies that were in the building.

It feels like this "top 100 best places to live" list just took every US city with 100K to 1M residents. https://livability.com/list/top-100-best-places-to-live/2019
For instance, the #Los_Angeles Times called !SoCal's #San_Bernardino a failed city, but it is on this list.
-
@alpacaherder I can understand their reasoning. The Federal Reserve's former #Los_Angeles facility banned all electronics and watches when my finance class visited there decades ago. Unless $BUREAU's policy is at least that restrictive, there could still be accidental leaks.
-
@trev Making sure there's no desert dust on you when you arrive in #Los_Angeles?

It has been a few years, but I still remember that a #Los_Angeles !SoCal radio station named “YMCA” the number one party song of all time.
I don’t know if the Village People are still around. (If so, they are probably playing the casino circuit.) That’s still pretty good to get that sort of approval thirty-five to forty years after the song was released.

I’m not planning to live in #SoCal by then, but I’m still no fan of bringing the #Olympic_Games to #Los_Angeles in 2028. I realize that will be 44 years since the last time the games were held here in #1984, but the whole area needs to focus on _rapid_ public transportation (I am someone who used to commute 5-6 hours per day to and from work, so I know what I’m talking about) and not be distracted by building giant new stadiums ? and swimming pools ?♀️ that public entities then have to rent out and maintain.

One of Goodyear's blimps is circling around the Lakers game. Someone in another party said this isn't a common sight in their hometown. #Los_Angeles !SoCal

Hanging out in #Los_Angeles with my youngest brother.

Some !SoCal #High_Desert and #Intermediate_Desert locations have had a little snow recently. It isn’t really a big deal. We used to get 1-2 inches of snow several times per year, even as late as the 3rd week of May.
This is more like a return to the recent normal for an El Niño year than an “OMG we’re all going to die!” moment. (There have been times when it snowed a little on the #I-210 from around Glendale to Azusa, so it isn’t unknown in the #Los_Angeles area, either.)

Also, I saw news stories about the promises the #Rams extracted from #St_Louis, #MO, only to abandon that city, the same way they had abandoned #Los_Angeles, #CA, years earlier. That was dirty.
-
Way back when the #Rams and #Raiders both left !SoCal the same year, I said that the #NFL was no longer a major league without a team in #Los_Angeles. When the Rams came crawling back (and brought the Chargers as well), I said *too little, too late*. I'm not watching the #SuperBowl because I don't care.
-
@sullybiker Ah, cool. I tend not to go into #Los_Angeles itself because of traffic congestion, but I do enjoy some things about living in !SoCal.
-
I mostly grew up in a #Los_Angeles suburb, so the plants I saw were mostly imported. I believe the Washingtonia palm trees (California fan palm and Mexican fan palm, which are my two favorite palm trees) are native to the area, but everything else I saw were imports.
This plant reminiscence brought to you by @moonman. Get 15% off your first month of Midwest - Arizona comparisons with coupon code IMOVEDTOAZ. (Actually, I enjoy them. I was too young to remember much about most of the other states I had lived in when I moved to !SoCal.)
-
@kai @sikkdays It has been over a decade since I took public transit in the small part of #Los_Angeles that has 24 hour coverage, but it was the unreliability (inability to be sure you would arrive at work on time without arriving 2-3 hours ahead of time) that I found least enjoyable. Perhaps MTA has fixed that now?
.
This is (still) true in the rest of !SoCal, where there may be 10+ hours between the last evening ride and the first morning ride.
.
I sure hated spending 5 hours per day driving to & from work.
-
"relatively small area" -- didn't you visit #Los_Angeles and find out that it is a huge area? Even if you ignore all the other municipalities in the greater Los Angeles area, it is pretty spread out.
-
@rye Boston, #MA, was a scary place to drive, at least for an outsider. Northern #NJ is also crazy, because of the rage that most drivers exhibit in every interaction. #Los_Angeles, #CA, drivers are also angry, but not like NJ.
.
BTW, drivers behave differently in different parts of !SoCal. I grew up in a residential suburb where most drivers were polite. I now live in an outlying area where most people commute 2-5 hours a day and someone who will make that commute longer is a mortal enemy.

@skellat I still remember commuting five hours per day (six hours on Fridays, seven if it was a holiday weekend) when I worked in #Los_Angeles. It wasn't much fun.
-
@delores Must not have gotten airplay in the #Los_Angeles !SoCal market. #1984 was during my peak music listening years, but I never heard of the song or the singer.
