In several recent conversations, I’ve been comparing and contrasting the US economy of the #1970s with the US economy of the #2010s and #2020s. I’ve been hitting various places in sort of a scattershot in my quest for 1970s economic data, but now I think I have a base point for most of the data: https://libraryguides.missouri.edu/pricesandwages/1970-1979 [libraryguides missouri edu] the #Missouri University Library ? in Columbia, #MO.
Obviously, there will still be more detail available at the Bureau of Labor Statistics

There are some really gnarly-looking #t-storms moving across the Kansas City ( #KS and #MO ) area and all the way North to St Joseph. The #NOAA / #NWS warnings do not mention rotation, but these look intense in the graphics.
-
For the past few days, there have been over one hundred storm and flood warnings for #KS and #MO. Most of the flooding is minor flooding along streams and rivers, but some is also urban & flash flooding.
Nothing to panic about, but if you’re in the middle of the country right now, avoid low spots for a few days.

#NOAA / #NWS issuing watches and warnings for severe #t-storms across much of #KS and #MO, including Kansas City ( #KCMO and #KCK ), Manhattan, Topeka, Leavenworth, Atkinson, St Joseph … #tornado watches for North Central Kansas across to the KC area … #flood warnings and severe thunderstorm watches in SE Kansas and SW Missouri.
I only get alerts for a defined area, so places outside of that area may also be affected.
If you are in #Kansas, #Missouri, or nearby states, pay attention to your weather alert radio’s alerts and your phone’s alerts.
-
Flooding reported over the roadway at #I-70 exit 124 in Columbia #MO. If you are travelling across the state of #Missouri today, be aware that the #t-storms and possible #tornado have brought some flooding with them (hopefully minor flooding that doesn’t cost anyone their life).
Naturally, they say “turn around, don’t drown”, but that might not be such a good idea on a major Interstate Highway.

Several #tornadoes reported in #AL. Also some in #KS, #MO, #IL, #MS. Probably other states as well, but these are the ones I’ve seen reports about.
One passed near Tuscaloosa, Alabama, which saw some major #tornado damage in 2011.

If you’re in that area, avoid low places and places that are underwater.

I went with #Mullvad #VPN. The connection is perceptibly slower, but the DNS errors are gone. The original plan was to get both Mullvad and #NordVPN, but I think I'll just use the one for a while.
#Hotel_INET (whether "wired" or #Hotel_Wi-Fi) is generally not trustworthy enough to use without a VPN. When #Tunnelr (a now-closed VPN service) shut down, I didn't get their announcement. I was in a hotel in #MO and found a large list of sites that were suddenly blocked because I couldn't log into my VPN.
In that case, the hotel's service provider was local, so when I told the lady at the front desk I was going to move to another hotel over the blocking, the hotel manager called and put someone from the service provider on the phone ... he then logged into the firewall and edited the rules until I was satisfied.

Told #sonTwo to monitor temperature in #GS3's room and to bring him into their room if it gets too cool in there.
Wind chills expected to reach -5°F to -20°F across #KS, #MO, #IL, lower in #NE and #IA.

I don’t know if the third alert is the same rotational storm that was over Neosho, but #NOAA / #NWS currently says there is radar indicated rotation near Granby #MO, 11 miles W of Monett, moving E at 25 MPH.
Again, the possible #tornado is radar indicated.
-
Second #tornado warning for Joplin #MO itself.
According to #NOAA / #NWS, this one is over Baxter Springs #KS, moving E at 30MPH. Radar indicated rotation.
Affected areas include #I-44 between mile markers 0 and 13, #I-49 between mile markers 30 and 35.
-
#NOAA / #NWS #tornado warning for Neosho #MO, SE of Joplin. If you’re in SE #KS or SW MO, make sure your cellular phone has emergency alerts turned on ... if you have a weather radio, make sure it still works, so it can pick up alerts for your area.
Radar indicated rotation, moving E at 35 MPH. Potential impacts include #I49 between mile markers 25 and 27.

@geniusmusing @storm Also, as I mentioned to my brother, even Arkansas has raised its minimum wage (currently $11.00/hour). I haven’t really been there (accidentally drove across the state border from #MO once), but my impression is that it is one of the poorer states. If #AR can do it, then probably only MS, AL, TN, KY, and WV could honestly say they don’t think they can afford it. That means states like IN and OH can just shut up and raise minwage themselves instead of waiting in dread for the feds to do it.
-
#NOAA / #NWS issuing flood warnings for SW and mid #MO. Highway department reports flooding on roads NE, E, SE, S of Springfield ... including #I-44 through Lebanon and Rolla.
-
