Break in the rain, so I'm getting food truck #pizza for lunch. I never would have even tried this before I came to #PR.
-
Big "all hands" gathering for #PR Constitution Day. Someone is giving us a quick salsa dance lesson. This is unusual. I've never seen this in the #US itself.
-
In theory, I could be here in #PR until February, but there are some tough issues here involving work assignments and ethnic groups that are likely to shorten that considerably.
-
At the mall looking at shoes. This is like when I was in junior high (more decades ago than I want to admit), when my (at that time) size 9 feet were like sasquatch feet to most of the stores.
.
I know someone in #PR has feet larger than doggy paws.
-
I was in a store the other day and I thought about the difference in children's names between the US and Puerto Rico. In the US, parents are always telling their kids "Put that down, Dammit." I haven't heard that name at all here in #PR.
-
@loke I am currently in Puerto Rico. #PR is a US territory / commonwealth, but it is like a foreign country in many ways.
-
Walk into the drugstore and immediately feel relief as the cooler air envelopes you. #PR_Life #PR
-
Sweating, even with the occasional puff of sea breeze. #PR is just hot and humid.
-
I just deleted 150 e-mail messages, almost all of them related to former tropical storm Beryl. Apparently, some areas of #PR had flooding, landslides, power outages, but very little near San Juan.
-
@notclacke I must admit, it is quite enjoyable not having to worry about exactly which weekend is "Spring forward" or "Fall back" ( #PR doesn't have daylight wasting time. ) I wish more US states would follow the example of #AZ.
-
Former #TropStorm #Beryl is really falling apart quickly. The radar says the main mass is SW of #PR, with a little tail going over us. There is little rain and no wind.
I'm sure there was some damage (probably along the southern coast), this was mostly a non-event here in the San Juan metro.
While I'm glad it wasn't severe, I don't think I got any idea what tropical cyclones are like in person.
-
@jonkulp We're getting that in patches in #PR today. Likely to increase later today as the main body of storm remnants go past, then clear up tomorrow.
-
@klaatu If you can get to #PR quickly, I have a fresh pot of #coffee, but it is 60% decaf.
-
The advance chunk of the former #TropStorm #Beryl has moved offshore, north of #PR. The main section is over #USVI now. This is pretty neat. Able to observe what a storm is like without the danger.
-
There was a strange siren going off, so I was not sure whether it was some sort of weather alert (like the tornado sirens heard in the midwest) or a custom alarm for someone's car. After several minutes, it stopped, so I expect it was the latter.
#PR really is a strange land sometimes. I never know what to expect.
-
Currently 80F, 93% relative humidity in San Juan, #PR, with light rain from the leading edge of #Beryl's remnants. #NOAA / #NWS issuing flash flooding, urban and small stream flooding warnings for the metro area (and probably all of Puerto Rico and #USVI, jusdging by the satellite and radar images).
-
@dragnucs Not usually. It depends on the assignment. When I was in Louisiana ( #LA ) a couple of years ago, I only occasionally had a day off for the first few months. Here in Puerto Rico ( #PR ), in about 3.5 months, I have not worked Sunday at all, but yesterday was my first Saturday off except for a couple of holiday weekends.
-
Every time I meet a local who speaks English, they ask me whether I like #PR.
.
I don't really have an answer, other than I don't like the local plantain dish Mofongo and I haven't had much time off to explore the island.
-
Someone at work said they went to the store (here in #PR) and saw people buying up food and water. Even though #Hurricane #Beryl is expected to be a weakened #TropStorm and to pass to the South of the island ( see https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at2+shtml/113837.shtml?cone#contents ), they remember Maria's impact (as they should; according to a recent check at status.pr, 1/20 of the island is still without power).
I may catch an Uber to Walmart to see whether they have some water purification kits in the camping section. I go to the local supermarkets and drug stores frequently enough to know they do not have such kits.

#Pizza and cupcakes behind me. Some people from the "node within a node, which is a child node" table are leaving #PR.
