Over on GSNO @stigatle@gnusocial.no announced that he shuts down the instance; it's simply nort running properly and it takes him too much time to find what might be the cause. Which means 1) I am back on mastodon (and here on gnusocial.cc) for the time being until 2) I find a 'nightly' gnusocial instance (or some other) that can federate with GS, MS, and Pleroma equally.. Pity that with GSNO, @stigatle put so much effort into it. ActivityPub killed gnusocial, it seems.

Craig Robertson, "The Filing Cabinet" https://placesjournal.org/article/the-filing-cabinet-and-20th-century-information-infrastructure/
A somewhat meandering piece with too many anecdotes and side issues (incl. mandatory digression into gender blah). Still a lot of valuable historical points and a plethora of good bibliographical info.

At this D-Day, commemoration should extend to Operation Bagration, the Soviet spring offensive at the east front that made the western allies's landing in Normandy even possible.

(It's not even clear who started this avaatz campaign as there is no person or group named as author. That's just shady.)

None of these people who come up with this petition came up with one when the Kurds were slaughtered by Turkish and Iraqi forces, when Palestinian civilians were slaughtered by the Syrian army, when the Tibetans were oppressed, the Uyghurs put into re-education camps, the Rohingya violently surpressed and expelled by Myanmar forces and Buddhist monchs, or when the people of Tigray were slaughtered by both the Ethiopian and Eritrean armies. Only when the percevied oppressor is Jewish do they come out with their petitions.

The one-sided outrage in the west over the violence in Gaza and Israel has proven at least this: So-called criticism of Israel is merely a cover for virulent anti-Semitism.

« In the case of PayPal, payments are made by default through what the company calls the “Goods and Services” workflow, which is designed for items that go in the mail—and therefore have a home address attached to them. »

Carl O'donnell & Manas Mishra, "Moderna sees no impact on COVID-19 vaccine from potential patent waiver" https://gnusocial.cc/url/542777
« Moderna, which said in October it would not enforce patents on its vaccine during the pandemic, noted the lack of companies able to rapidly scale up complex manufacturing of a similar vaccine to meet surging global demand. »
[Has there been any boost in vaccine production due to Moderna's decision not to enforce its patent during the pandemic? I really doubt it.]

Julian Borger & Patrick Wintour, "US-Germany rift as Berlin opposes plan to ditch Covid vaccine patents" https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/may/06/us-germany-rift-covid-vaccine-patent-waivers
« Any WTO decision on a waiver would have to be by consensus, so Germany opposition is a major obstacle to intellectual property rights on vaccines being suspended. »
[Very good.]

Perhaps their goal was to increase the sales of drinks. Profit margins are better with bevarages than with food.

« [P]eople are considered fully vaccinated for COVID-19 ≥2 weeks after they have received the second dose in a 2-dose series (Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna), or ≥2 weeks after they have received a single-dose vaccine (Johnson and Johnson (J&J)/Janssen ) »

Don't take your mask off the day after your final shot. Immunity needs to built up for 10-14 days. In this time, behave like before the vaccination.

@lnxw48a1 @sullybiker Do these board positions come with a salary or reimbursement? (Perhaps Stallman is just in need of cash.)
Anyway, AFAIK there has been clear and numerouse evidence for the allegations, enough to keep this prick out of MIT and FSF for life.

Ross Douthat, "Do Liberals Care if Books Disappear?" https://nytimes.com/2021/03/06/opinion/dr-seuss-books-liberalism.html
« One day, the Seuss estate decides to self-censor; the next, that decision becomes the justification for eBay to delist used copies of the books. In a cultural landscape dominated by a few big companies with politically uniform management, you don’t need state censorship for books to swiftly vanish. »

Perhaps I am wrong:
Kristin Tate, "Rural America booms as young workers leave the cities behind" https://gnusocial.cc/url/530071
Interesting numbers on population movements, rental and property prices... Although the author of this opinion piece is a libertarian, text and links are worth considering.
OTOH: It may all be true that *newly* arriving people in the rural areas have good chances for jobs and settling down, but that doesn't need to say much about the people already living here, mostly blue collar, still forced to work 2-3 jobs in service and low tech manual labour or assembly line jobs. They may profit from an improved infrastructure paid for by influx of tax dollars, but their job outlooks seem to stay the same.
