its pretty dumb to assume animals only demonstrate imitation which humans somehow do not. animals have huge processes and communicate in ways we cant even understand but apparently they're just robots.

but us humans, who get put into predictable situations and act like we are programmed to all the time, we're special. we're /sapient/ because i personally feel alive.

If we admit that animals and people are on equal footing regarding sapience, or even a measured spectrum of self-awareness, empathy, and contextual-object-attachement, than we must call into question some very serious ethical problems of how human beings have treated animals for aeons.

Unfortunately, animals are largely seen as meat robots. There's a strong possibility that they're a lot more sapient than anyone realizes.
