I was the only female programmer at that unit, but I was pretty much just treated as another of the guys, which had its good points and bad points, but I much prefer that kind of thing where it seems just natural to the more forced "diversity" measures we have today.  We all did our own things.  A couple of th eguys would make off-colour jokes sometimes but it was just guys being guys, not really out of a place of malice, and that context is important.  (Indeed its the fear that some woman might take offense at those kinds of things that makes so many men in the office these days feel very uncomfortable and engenders resentment and distance between social groups.)
