Repeated #COVID-19 infections each carry their own risk of #long-COVID.
#2019-nCoV #SARS-CoV-2
> New research looks at the effects of repeated Covid infections and finds pretty much what you would expect: you not only do not get any kind of superimmunity, you increase your risk of long-term consequences, hospitalization and death. The worse news is that this holds true regardless of vaccination status.
> This is not over. Please take care. Mask up.

S called tonight. She's working in a tiny office and dealing with angry drivers on the commute to work. She's glad to be there, because the main office had an outbreak of #COVID-19 and is on work from home for a week or so.

From 2021: composition of gut microbiome altered in #COVID-19 patients.
> The composition of the gut microbiome is altered in patients with COVID-19, with the perturbed composition correlating with disease severity
and
> obtained blood, stool, and patient records from 100 patients with laboratory-confirmed severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in a two-hospital cohort study. Up to 30 days after clearance of SARS-CoV-2, serial stool samples were collected from 27 of the 100 patients.

> A COVID infection can reduce the number of bacterial species in the gut, creating an opportunity for dangerous antibiotic-resistant bacteria to thrive
and
> The study is the first to show that COVID alone damages the gut microbiome, researchers said. Before now, doctors had suspected that the use of antibiotics to treat COVID had been damaging gut bacteria.
Both articles stopped short of saying that #SARS-CoV-2 directly attacks certain gut bacteria. Perhaps something that the human body does in response to the infection also kills off beneficial organisms in the intestines.

My daughter-in-law's grandmother sent a message thanking me for being here and helping to take care of the kids during this time. Between the parents' #COVID-19 infections and the kids' #Strep_Throat infections, there were a few days where I was the only one who felt well enough to make sure the kids ate and had plenty of fluids (and took their antibiotics). And now, since the birth, I have continued to take the primary caregiver role for the 3.5 and 1.5 year olds, with some short respite care periods for the newborn as well.
Unfortunately, my reserved time off is quickly approaching its end, which means I may be called back to work. We need to coordinate with her parents to come here and assist for another month or so.

1.5 year old #GS4 cannot understand why we keep separating him from his brother. Every time I look away, he goes back into the bedroom to try and make his older brother play with him. He has never been sick 🤒, so this would be a really rough experience for him.
I’m pretty sure this is an Omicron subvariant of #COVID-19, which seems to be extremely contagious, but much less severe. Their doctor said that small children typically don’t need much care, so focus on hydration and fever control. Also, that it is likely that everyone in the house will be infected before this passes.

This just in: #sonTwo just took a #COVID-19 test; tested positive. He's supposed to be at the hospital in a few days for the birth of the next child, but now may have to change plans.
(He found out after he arrived at work to cover someone's shift for medical reasons, so there may be an outbreak in his workplace.)

> CA is losing residents hour-by-hour, many bound for Texas. So much that multiple U-Haul locations have run out of available rentals
@fu I think there's more to it than that. Remember when #COVID-19 hit and as a result, travel & relocations cratered? Do you think U-haul, Ryder, Penske, etc continued to buy trucks? Not likely. So now, in addition to more people moving now that things are loosening up, there are fewer moving trucks available.
Automobile rental companies did the same thing.
But, yes, more US citizens are leaving #CA than are arriving. I think that has been true for about 20 years, but before, there were enough births and international arrivals to continue raising the state's population.

Nearly 1/3 of applicants to #California's #COVID-19 rental assistance program were denied; 82% of appeals were denied again. https://nationalequityatlas.org/CARentalAssistance [nationalequityatlas org]

Speaking of memories, for all these years, I have been shopping at the #Target store where #sonTwo and #Daddy_A worked. I have seen the service slide, followed by stockouts -- even before #COVID-19 -- of specific products, followed by general inventory shortages, followed by replacing known good products with low quality store branded products.
I still go to "Super Target" instead of #Walmart or the nearest supermarket. Or I go to the cross-town supermarket and stop by the Target in that area.
But I'm not happy with them. If someone opened a clean and well-stocked store within walking distance with the quality products I want, I would switch in a heartbeat.

Someone shared this. Catchy. If enough UK voters groove to this ... and think about the words ... a different party will take over after their next election.

Getting daily announcements about #COVID-19 cases among employees in both the Manhattan (New York County) and Brooklyn (Kings County) offices. Hoping I don't bring an uninvited visitor (the #SARS-CoV-2 virus) home with me.
We had one guy who had some undiagnosed ailment for two days last week. He was coughing and sneezing furiously, and barely able to keep his eyes open.
The management argued furiously about whether they should send him home. They finally sent him home. The next day, he spent an hour in the men's room puking, so they argued some more before sending him home.
That's the perfect response if you want illness to spread throughout the office.

Management decisions:
* move production to low-wage countries overseas where there are fewer regulations covering things like working conditions and pollution;
* switch to lean / just-in-time inventory for supplies / parts
Then, when #COVID-19 hit, their supply chains collapsed and have still not recovered two years later.

Someone in the building tested positive for #COVID-19, so we're on "work from hotel" until a sanitizing crew can come in.
Of course, we were in the office when the bug out was announced.
