I saw a few minutes of the #SuperBowl after my call with my brother. Didn’t get to call #sonOne or #sonTwo. Since the older one lives in #KCMO, I was not surprised to hear that he was watching. Still waiting to hear from the second kid and #Daddy_A.

#Daddy_A had gone silent again. I was just about to ask his brother #sonTwo whether I had said or done something offensive when I received a meme image from him.
I feel like that commercial for Clairol's "Son of a Gun" blow dryer: "Rain! Our crops are saved!"
You'd think I'd get used to these random silent periods by now (he's 30 years old), but I never have.

@amic Ah, that's good! One of the reasons #Daddy_A has permanent problems with his back is because Medi-Cal (California's version of MedicAid) refused to help for over a year. Not because their income wasn't low enough, but because he's an adult male. (His wife and son already had Medi-Cal at the time). The county refused to do emergency care because ACA required him to get Medi-Cal.
I'm still angry about the way ACA and Medi-Cal interacted.

#Daddy_A feels rejected because he’s not getting any job offers. But he’s been off work five years due to a back injury (and been the primary caregiver for three kids), so it is not unexpected. Trying to persuade him to start some sort of job-training program, so that he’ll have a better shot.

84 minutes phone call with #sonOne, #GD2, #GD1, and with my daughter-in-law. Going to try to call #sonTwo and his family and maybe #Daddy_A, too.

I'm an equal opportunity nicknamer.
#sonOne (age 42) was still called "Diaper Butt" long after he outgrew that nickname, and still gets it on his birthday.
#Daddy_A (age 30) still gets called by his (now embarrassing) childhood nickname that he outgrew around age 10-12.
Now, #Little_Boy_A (age 6) retains his old nick.

@guizzy I'm planning to see it regardless. Normally, we all (me, #sonOne, #sonTwo, #Daddy_A) go to see a Star Wars flick on opening day, at approximately the same time (despite being in different areas), but this year, only the oldest kid has the budget for it. If it is still playing when I go back to work, I'll see it and send money to the younger kids so they can see it also. ( #Star_Wars is a regular and common topic of our conversations. )
-
I should note that both #sonOne ( age 42 ) and #sonTwo ( age 32 ) obtained jobs with vacation time within the last 2-3 years, but before that, neither of them had ever had it either. ( #Daddy_A still has not had a job with vacation, but he was stuck in retail until a back injury took him out of the workforce for five years. )

Well, announced to #sonOne and #Daddy_A that there's no money available for their kids' Christmas gifts this year. #sonTwo already specifically requested no gifts this year.
.
I'm probably going to videochat with #GD1 and #GD2 to tell them myself. I'll text #GS1 also.

Final (?) decision: Neither I nor #sonOne will ship our existing servers to #sonTwo; that model (a used Dell PowerEdge 2950 Gen 3) was chosen specifically because we each have one (makes support easier). We may look at getting a cheap LEB VPS that 2nd son and #Daddy_A can log into and practice on while they await their physical servers.

#Daddy_A is applying at some places that I know he would not like to work. I am very thrilled to see this, because he's been off work (for medical reasons) about five years. It isn't likely that he'll easily get his dream job.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Ws5klxbI87I "I am the walrus"
.
When I was in high school, my friends were mostly Beatles fans. They used to chase me around the campus, singing this song I disliked. Years later, when #sonTwo and #Daddy_A were in middle school, a friend would buy Beatles cassettes to give to the older of the two. Even then, I said I am the walrus would not be allowed.

@moonman I think I would up getting https://www.amazon.com/Tripp-Lite-Enclosure-Cabinet-SR12UB/dp/B0043WF9E8/ ... which is close to what I paid for the other 3 racks I bought combined. (Thankfully, so far, #Daddy_A has shown no interest in the world of servers.)

When #Daddy_A told me about this today, I was glad when he said they were not going to give up.

#Daddy_A is glad that his weather radio arrived today. Meanwhile, at #sonTwo’s house, #GS3 really likes his new texture ball.

Got this for #Daddy_A. He was in #AZ when I sent these to the older kids a few years ago. https://nu.federati.net/attachment/250292

Text message this morning from #Daddy_A talking about health challenges. He has partial sensation in his legs, none in his feet, pain in his back, and another growth on his neck. His wife suddenly started having seizures and passing out at work. He said this is why he's been silent.
-
#Daddy_A says he’s aware that he has to make more effort to communicate with me and his brothers. He just goes silent for weeks at a time. I’m glad to hear that he’s aware of the problem. I can’t expect him to magically become the family communication hub, but if he makes a little bit of progress in answering when we call him, people will notice.

#Daddy_A’s birth certificate has the wrong date, but I cannot expect them to correct it thirty years later.

How is it still over 90F in Mesa #AZ (where #Daddy_A used to live) in the third week of September? That’s crazy.
It was about 85F here in #Sac.
