#Daddy_A got a glass corner desk for the computers I bought. Before that, he was using part of the dinner table. Sorry, #Mama_A, but did you see how much more alive he is now?
-
@rye I call #Daddy_A my "cat lady" kid. There always seems to be 3-5 strays that move in.
-
It has been quite a while since I last did one of these.
#Introductions is superfluous when I've been in the #fediverse since 2009. This should be tagged #untroductions instead.
I work for $EMPLOYER, a government agency which remains unamed due to their fear of appearing to endorse the things I say.
I do not speak for them, and they do not speak for me. Nothing I say or write is endorsed by or an official statement of the agency.
I manage https://nu.federati.net/ and other Federati Networks sites. !fnetworks
I generally work too much (3000 - 3500 hours per year the last few years). I try to remain in touch with my kids and grandkids, having realized that I missed a lot by being at work all the time. ( I spent more time with #sonTwo than with #sonOne or #Daddy_A, partly because he came and hung out at my workplace at the time. ) I am actively attempting to reduce that to something more reasonable, so that the younger grandkids (currently 11 and younger) will know me as the granddad that is present and involved.
Politically, I'm a centrist. By this, I mean that I reject the overall viewpoints and the dangerous and harmful plans of both the left and the right. I also disagree with many others who call themselves centrists.
I reject the US Democrat and Republican twin parties, generally choosing to vote for candidates who are not part of either organization. I do not believe that either the federal government or any corporation is the savior of the people. (Nor do I believe in any form of anarchism.)

#sonOne's #PR souvenir mugs arrived yesterday. #Daddy_A's mugs arrived today. No word from #sonTwo yet, but AFAIK, the mugs I sent to #SoCal family members have not arrived yet.
-
Received another snow picture from #Daddy_A in #NE. He says four to twelve inches are expected today and tonight. I assume there’s also some windchill going on, because the grandkids were not outside playing.
-
Shipments sent. Now, #sonOne and his wife will soon have a pair of large #PR mugs. I decided to get #sonTwo and his wife a pair of large PR mugs. Because #Daddy_A is different from the other two, I decided to get him and his wife a pair of large PR mugs.
(Yes, the store had one design [in two available colors: gray/purple, gray/lightblue], so everyone got the same pair.)
-
Planning to ship stuff for #sonOne and #sonTwo tomorrow. #Daddy_A's shipment will be Thursday. https://nu.federati.net/attachment/206838

Sent #Daddy_A a box full of toys for the grandkids with instructions to put them away for about a month. The oldest kid got some card games, so I guess I sent homework.
-
I think I got in line behind the #PR equivalent of the woman known as "coupin lady" at the store that #sonTwo and #Daddy_A worked at. 45 minutes and counting.
-
#Daddy_A is putting the GT 1030 card I sent in the kids' computer. He has RX 590 in one computer and GTX 1060 in his other computer.
-
I sent a #blue_pawprint to #Daddy_A ... he’s asking questions and trying to get me to reveal too much.
-
#lazyNephew: “There are so many projects I want to do with this Raspberry Pi. I think I’m going to end up with ten of them.”
(I sent him a !RasPi 0 W after he heard about the things #sonOne and #Daddy_A were doing.)
-
Sent an inexpensive camcorder to #Daddy_A, but I still don't have any grandkids video. Asked #sonTwo to explain how this works.
-
#Daddy_A gets a !RasPi Zero W and an !Arduino, because he is excitedly planning projects with his other three SBC boards.
#LazyNephew also gets a #Raspberry_Pi Zero W, and is starting to look up projects now.
-
About to peel off the cover. I'm going to walk down to CVS and Walgreens to get more. If I find enough, #sonOne, #sonTwo, #Daddy_A, @amic will all have these in about ten days. https://nu.federati.net/attachment/198203

Me, discussing the computer build project that has consumed much of the last few months (and a big chunk of my budget): It all started when #lazyNephew found a "gaming" laptop on #GnawLeg ( #NewEgg ) for three hundred and something dollars and asked me to buy it for him after he lost his job.
So, that and getting #sonOne, #sonTwo, and #Daddy_A all living in the same part of the country again (for the first time since 2009) describe my "accomplishments" for 2018. Well, the second one really is an accomplishment, because it took me three years to start dispersing them from our economically dying part of !SoCal (nine years to complete that), and then three years to get them to consolidate in the middle of the country.

Mostly finished getting stuff for my next shipment to #Daddy_A’s kids, even though the shipment isn’t due for a few weeks. This one is completely backwards. Usually, I see something the five year old will like and then have to search to find things for the younger ones. This time, the oldest was the last one that I found anything for. https://nu.federati.net/attachment/197873

I awakened a monster. By sending #Daddy_A the parts to build two computers, I’ve now given him the desire to upgrade them. He bought a used liquid cooling system and is now looking at monitors.
On the other hand, due to several back surgeries over the past five years, he had stopped expecting any improvement in his life. Now, he’s excited and looking forward again.
-
I asked #sonOne whether the kids enjoyed their gifts. When I awoke, I had multiple Wire and SMS messages from #GS1, #GD1, #GD2. Also asked #Daddy_A and received a message saying his kids liked theirs. Still no pics.

@kai In other “new PC” news, based on some advice from @amic, I’m almost finished with a project with #lazyNephew and #Daddy_A to equip the three of us with new gaming level PCs.
I guess there are some benefits to working a lot of overtime.
