One of my last ocean days in #PR. https://nu.federati.net/attachment/206520
-
Bonus: After almost a year in #PR, I found a store that has salt-free chips. Not that it helps now, but it is good to know in case @bthall and @amic fly me back here for a non-working real vacation.
-
Another brief power outage overnight. Everything seems to be back except the refrigerator. And the water heater, but that’s been offline for over a week now.
I’m starting to understand why C (who grew up in #PR before moving to #NYC) won’t come here except for brief visits to see his mom.
-
I’m curious, but not enough to ask, how they allocate assigned parking in this building. Around 28 units, 8 spaces inside the fenced lot, two more outside the back fence (on a street with a deep shortage of parking spaces, so the people there likely never get to use their spaces).
.
The public transit system is not very good, so I cannot imagine that the other residents use it much. I’m hoping that part of the rebuilding will be expanding the elevated rail throughout the #San_Juan #PR metro.

No hot water since Friday’s power outage. Did I tell you that I am ready to escape #PR?
-
The cute fifty year old that wants a wedding ring keeps walking past and trying to get my attention by touching my shoulder. But I’m in “no attachments, no baggage” mode ahead of my departure from #PR.
-
I am really going to miss having the ocean within walking distance. I don't know if there's anything else I'll miss about #PR, but that one is certain.
-
I ran into someone from #FL, who used to come to #PR as a child to visit relatives. He told me that his uncles used to always complain about the shoddiness of the infrastructure here. He specifically mentioned electric cables hanging low enough that people could grab onto them.
That surprised me, because I see that frequently, but I thought it was just because they re-attached everything in a rush.
-
I don't think I made it to 10K steps, but the steps I took were on a steep hill as I approached the Arecibo radio telescope South of Arecibo, #PR.
-
@kai Nothing extreme. A few recent small outages in #PR's San Juan metro, plus some in my #SoCal hometown, plus a multi-day outage in Kansas City (both #KS and #MO). Talking with a local co-worker whose village was without power for most of a year.
We just don't think about the possibility, so we don't prepare for it.
-
@alpacaherder That is too bad. Guaynabo is right here in the San Juan metro. #sonOne’s employer has a facility in Bayamon (neighboring municipality), but he was not picked to rotate through #PR, so we haven’t seen each other face to face in a year.
-
There have been several small earthquakes in the last day or two in an area 55-65 miles (88-104KM) NE of the Dominican Republic, near the #PR trench. The largest one was a 4.3.
-
Meanwhile, as temperatures drop across much of the US mainland, #PR is still warm. 84F in San Juan right now.
-
Mark: Please don't tell me that you're going back to #PR as a tourist after you spent a year there and did not go outside San Juan.
Me: I am likely to do that. Without the schedule and policy constraints of $EMPLOYER, I can go more places.
-
Not feeling it today. I hope the remaining weeks in #PR are not going to be like this.

@alpacaherder @nybill Not yet, but #PR gov does not want to own PREPA any longer.
-
@nybill Is power still out? Maybe your electric utility should buy some power from PREPA / AAE ( #PR electric utility ).
-
@geniusmusing Not trading.

I think I got in line behind the #PR equivalent of the woman known as "coupin lady" at the store that #sonTwo and #Daddy_A worked at. 45 minutes and counting.
